OUR WORK IN CHARLESTON
CHURCHES IN CHARLESTON
We are a family in love with Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent into the world to make disciples that are obedient to the Scriptures.
Gospel United Charleston is a network of micro-churches in Charleston, SC, that functions as a family of families. We currently have one church on James Island and one church on Johns Island, and we seek to plant churches all throughout the greater Charleston area.
We believe strongly in training and releasing people to fulfill the calling of God in their lives. This best shows itself through church-based theological training and rapid multiplication of our churches in Charleston. We hope to at least double our congregations every year starting in 2021, as we’d like to see churches in downtown Charleston, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and wherever else God would lead us to plant churches.
HOW THE CHURCHES BEGAN
Russ and Anna Bennett, along with their teammates from Burundi, Africa and with other family and friends, formally launched the Gospel United Churches in Charleston in June of 2020. The Bennetts have been serving in ministry together for over 18 years. They returned from Burundi, Africa in March of 2020 after co-founding the Antioch Foundation and Dukorane (a Burundi-based investment firm) with many of the same Burundian and American teammates. James Island Christian Church (JICC), where Russ served for 7 years prior to living in Burundi, released Russ to plant and supported members of JICC who wanted to help in this new work. Gospel United Charleston is made up of a network of interdependent micro-churches that currently meet on James Island and Wadmalaw/Johns Island. The leaders of Gospel United Charleston want to see every man, woman, and child become established in the faith and multiply their lives wherever God may send them.
