Spectatin' Poolside

November 28, 2018

Have you ever been standing in a crowd and realized you were watching something special? Could you feel the energy of the spectators around you, see the smiles and wide eyes, all marveling in one direction?

We all love that feeling of marveling. We yearn for spectacles at which to marvel.

Two weeks ago, we (a few friends and I) marveled at seeing twenty some odd people get baptized in a pool. {Note: Getting 20 plus people to do anything is pretty crazy, right?}

We were at a new church plant 2 hours outside of Bujumbura.

Why are these people getting baptized?

See Matthew 28:19; Jesus says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.”

Those are some words of Jesus, telling his followers to make disciples, which apparently involves baptizing and teaching.

For him to give this command at the end of his ministry, it must have been important to him. But that’s all for another day.

Anywho, when we were in the crowd at the baptism, a friend next to me remarked with a smile: “I can’t imagine the celebrations in heaven right now. I think we here are not celebrating loudly enough!”

What do you think about my friend’s remark?

Too much celebration or too little?

Much Ado about Nothing or Not Enough about Something?

Why?
